MJC Compact Cimbasso

MJC Compact Cimbasso

The MJC Compact Bass Cimbasso was developed for London freelance Tuba player John Elliott.
John's request was for an instrument that was compact and easy to carry around on public transport.
The instrument below, The John Elliott model, was the result. Built with a reversible 5th valve, it can be in F or Eb, by reversing the rotor arm. This version has the 4th valve on the left hand.

MJC Cimbassi are optimised so a Tuba player can play with ease, without adapting their technique, yet still have the instrument sound like a trombone when played quietly, instead of a round Tuba sound.

Available in a variety of bore sizes to suit the individual.

The MJC Compact is available in almost any key needed; anything from Bb Tenor to G, F, E, E flat, or D,
In piston or rotor, 4-valve compensating (piston only) or 5- and 6-valve, non-compensating.
Available in Brass, Gold Brass or Nickel Silver, or any combination of the above.

MJC Bass Cimbasso

The MJC Bass Cimbasso was developed for my personal use and was the product of extensive research.
Designed to fit 'under' the sound of the Bass trombone for operatic use, it does not have the overbearing issues of some Cimbassi. The design allows a Tuba player to blend with the Trombone's sound, rather than make a sound similar to a Ephonium when playing piano or pianissimo.
Available in a variety of bores to suit the player and the style of music it will be used for.
The MJC Bass Cimbasso is available in G, F, E, E flat, D, or C.
In piston or rotor, 4-valve compensating (piston only) or 5- and 6-valve non-compensating.
Available in Brass, Gold Brass or Nickel Silver, or any combination of the above.

MJC BBb Contrabass Tuba

The MJC BBb Bass
The development of the British brass band over the last 35 years has, sadly, left the BBb Bass behind.
As a player in both the Orchestral arena and in high level brass bands, Mike Johnson has a great amount of experience on both sides. We have developed a BBb Bass that can match up to what a modern brass band needs, at the same time offering a Contrabass instrument that can be used in an orchestra and have the bell facing the Trombones. Such an instrument has not been available until now. Designed from the ground up, MJC have not had the limitations that are on manufacturers that use mass-production methods.
This BBb Tuba comes from years of research and playing to come up with what we think is the ultimate Contrabass Tuba.
The MJC valve system offers a truly open bore and a balanced 4th valve register, whilst retaining the convenience of the finger system of the compensator; the true next step for compensating instruments.

Available in Brass, Gold Brass or Nickel Silver, or any combination of the above.

MJC Subcontrabass Tuba

Historically, manufacturers have built 'Giant' Tubas as a publicity tool, mostly totally impractical to transport because of their sheer size, some being 2 metres tall!
MJC is working on a Subcontrabass Tuba in EEb, that will be easily transportable in any car that will take a large Contrabass Tuba.
Why?
Because we can!
Available in Brass, Gold Brass or Nickel Silver, or any combination of the above.
